“Howdy, Partner. Cheese!” Was a common phrase heard around the house in the days surrounding Halloween.
Both boys dressed up as cowboys. It was the first Halloween in which both boys were really excited about their costumes. It was the first Halloween in which our sewing skills were really put to the test.
Of course, before Halloween even arrived we needed to decorate. At least that’s what Isaac decided one afternoon. He then proceeded to draw pictures of pumpkins and other Halloween icons. He found a scissors and cut them up, and with a little help managed to get them mounted in the front yard.
Gabe grew weary of cowboy hats and boots the way he often grows weary of pants and shirts. Nothing made him happier than walking around with a cowboy hat on saying “mowboy at!” But seriously, wearing a hat all the time is such a drag.
I was reasonably happy with my costume, too. I can’t say I’m great at sewing, but I think everything turned out OK. Carol did the boys’ costumes, but I was on my own. I especially like my hand-embroidered cadeussus.
In the three parties I went to, and after meeting dozens of people Halloween night, I can honestly say that I think only one person actually understood the theme behind the family’s costumes. This doesn’t really surprise me. It does tell me who the cool parents are at daycare, though.
